About
I’m Chris Owens.
Over the past 20 years I’ve been a scientist, a professor, a consultant, and a founder of a consulting firm. I’ve worked on analytic, strategic, technical, and governance projects. Although I’ve worked on a lot of issues related to the public Internet and other kinds of distributed, shared infrastructure, my professional roots lie in artificial intelligence, cognition, and computer science, and I’m particularly interested in using those disciplines to increase human capability: by improving access to information,by fostering collaboration, by capturing and sharing expertise, and by helping people understand and reason about complex things.
I live in downtown Boston with my wife of 23 years, my two children (one away at college), and a Labrador retriever. Aside from new ideas, I enjoy old houses, politics, sailboat racing, and the pleasures of city living, but I don’t expect you’ll read much about any of that here: this blog is my outlet for commentary on items of professional interest to me.
If you’re interested, you can read my biography here , or a more self-indulgent personal narrative here. To get in touch, please visit the contact page on this site.
